Up and Coming New Artists: Midi Matilda

Here’s some new music you might be interested in. It’s Midi Matilda, an up and coming new band from San Francisco, California who have been touring in support of Dirty Heads and Shiny Toy Guns, along with Oh No Fiasco. It’s a two man dynamic duo between Skylar Kilborn and Logan Grimé. They describe themselves as electro and pop, but seem to possess both an understanding of music and repertoire of musical instruments greater than either of those genres. Their songs are light hearted, fun and are a nice pickup to a gloomy, cloudy day, and the trumpet in “Day Dreams” gives their music an extra oomph that many new artists lack. Their song “Ottawa” does show their electronic leanings, with a heavy synthesizer beneath Skylar’s lead vocals, but in an interview with the Huffington Post, they said that “we want our shows to be like Daft Punk meets The White Stripes,” so if those two bands hit the spot, I’m sure Midi Matilda will too. Here’s a video of the title song of their EP, Red Light District.

It sounds a little different compared to the album version because it’s an acoustic version, but their EP is now available on iTunes. Definitely check them out.
