Florence The Machine share songs recorded for Final Fantasy XV
Excited for Final Fantasy XV to drop in September? Florence + The Machine is, too: last Friday, the British band released an EP of songs recorded for the game, aptly titled Songs from Final Fantasy XV. The three-song collection includes two original tracks as well as the game’s theme song, a dreamy, orchestral cover of the Ben E. King classic “Stand By Me.” In a statement on Twitter, frontwoman Florence Welch explained why involvement with FFXV was a natural choice: “I’ve always seen Final Fantasy as a beautiful and creative game so I don’t think I could have worked with another video game… In some ways the landscape of Final Fantasy and my own internal landscape seemed to fit quite well. It’s mythical and beautiful and epic.” Since Welch is essentially a walking woodland sprite, the collaboration definitely makes sense! Check out “Stand By Me” below.
Original Paramore drummer shares about reuniting with the band
Remember when Josh and Zac Farro, the brothers who comprised two-fifths of Paramore, split from the band on bad terms back in 2010? It was every emo fan’s nightmare—nearly as painful as Fall Out Boy’s hiatus (shudders). Luckily for Paramore fans, the rift has been healed! Zac, the band’s former drummer, spoke to Billboard this week about reuniting with Paramore to help record songs for the group’s upcoming album. “It’s a second chance,” Farro enthused. “I’m so thankful that I’m playing on the album, but that wasn’t what was important to me at the beginning. What was important was mending those friendships… [frontwoman] Hayley [Williams] and [guitarist] Taylor [York] have become really good friends of mine again and they’re super supportive of my stuff.” Unfortunately, Farro isn’t reentering the band—he’s got his hands full as the lead singer and songwriter for his solo project, Halfnoise—but this reunion (and the new music to come!) is enough!
Twenty one pilots make chart history
When “Stressed Out” got massively popular last winter, twenty one pilots shed their indie anonymity and stepped into the spotlight. The duo’s latest accomplishment cements their newfound fame: TOP is the first alternative act in history to notch two singles simultaneously in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100! This week, “Heathens” shot to #4 on the chart, while “Ride” came in at #7.

Jack White announces compilation album, debuts new track
Jack White is always up to something. A few weeks ago, his label, Third Man Records, played the first vinyl in space; now, rock’s resident Renaissance man is releasing an anthology of his various musical projects. Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016 is a 26-track collection of album cuts, B-sides, and alternate recordings of songs released by The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and White as a soloist. The album also features an unreleased White Stripes song, “City Lights.” Acoustic Recordings is out September 9th, but you can listen to “City Lights” below!
