Red Hot Chili Peppers Frontman Hospitalized

On May 14th, the lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis, was rushed to the hospital for intense abdominal pain. The frontman’s sickness befell him just before the Peppers’ set at the KROQ Weenie Roast in Irvine, CA, leading his remaining bandmates to take the stage and regrettably inform concertgoers that they were unable to play their show. Kiedis was later diagnosed with an intestinal flu, and the band canceled another California gig to give him ample time to recover, but according to drummer Chad Smith, he is now doing well, and the rockers intend to play a show in Columbus, OH on May 22nd. “He’s a very strong man,” Smith stated in an interview with Radio X, “and he’ll be back better than ever.”

Coldplay Release Surreal New Music Video

For “Up & Up,” the third single from Coldplay’s 2015 LP A Head Full of Dreams, the British rockers released a music video that looks like a surrealist painting come to life. The four-minute clip forgoes a plot, and instead pairs the atmospheric track with a series of mind-bending scenes: cars racing around Saturn’s rings, a gargantuan eagle flying underwater, an upside-down city floating over the ocean, and a giant Chris Martin lying beside a mountain range, to name a few. Watching its beautiful (and slightly trippy) visuals feels like stepping into a dreamlike world (that is, if your dreams feature Chris Martin). It’s definitely worth a watch.

Blink-182 Release 14-Second Song, Loop It For 10 Hours

Apparently, blink-182 loves to troll us. In early May, the pop-punk vets released the audio for the third single from their forthcoming album California. The cheeky track, called “Built This Pool,” is a mere fourteen seconds long, but this week, the band released a video that loops the song for ten hours straight! Hey, they’re nothing if not ambitious. If you’ve just got to hear why blink-182 built a pool (and hear it again, and again, and again…), listen to “Built This Pool” above—ten-hour commitment recommended, but not required—and get a free download of the song here.

Radiohead Shed Light on Secretive Recording Process

In their first interview since the release of their ninth album, A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead invited a journalist to their studio and gave fans a glimpse into their famously mysterious recording process. Writer Adam Thorpe of the Times Literary Supplement describes a snippet of a Radiohead rehearsal thus: band members work on a “home-made sound machine” created from hammers striking various objects, guitarist Jonny Greenwood “establishes a rhythm, part-calypso, part-reggae, with his yogurt cartons, tubs, bells and mini-tambourine,” resident artist Stanley Donwood “reacts in acrylic to what he hears, the results to be modified and manipulated on computer for the LP’s cover,” and lead singer Thom Yorke crosses the lawn in a towel turban and sunglasses (rock stars in towel turbans – just a normal day for Radiohead!). With such unique methods, it’s no wonder that the band’s sound is so distinctive.
