The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week, plus info on new album and music video releases.
1. The Smashing Pumpkins release a new album
On Friday, bombastic nineties alt-rockers Smashing Pumpkins came out with Shiny and Oh So Bright Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun., the first of their albums since 2000 to feature three of the group’s founding members: Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlain. The record’s eight songs mark a return to the grand, soaring sound that distinguished the band in the ’90s. Right now, the Smashing Pumpkins are finishing a 30th anniversary tour; they’ll be playing in the U.S. through December. Listen to their new album here.
2. Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival comes to Houston
Back in August, Travis Scott announced that he would hold his first-ever Astroworld Festival in place of playing a concert in Houston. The festival was scheduled for November 17th, and Scott didn’t release the lineup until the day before. On Friday, he posted on Instagram that he would be headlining and that stars from Post Malone to Rae Sremmurd would be performing. Thousands attended the festival, which was constructed to look like the now-closed Astroworld theme park of Scott’s youth. The event was hugely successful, so we might see Astroworld Festival becoming an annual occurrence!
