Soundtrack Sound Off: Deerhunter Score Short Film
Deerhunter, the Atlanta-based indie rock band behind the gorgeous album Halcyon Digest, recently scored a short film called The Curve of Forgotten Things. In the short, Elle Fanning wanders aimlessly around an oil site looking for nice things in wildly inappropriate outfits. This is because the film was actually designed by directer Todd Cole with the fashion line Rodarte. Very clearly a fashion film- Elle’s outfit mysteriously changes just about every time she turns around a corner- Deerhunter seems like an odd choice to create the soundtrack. But they pull it off. Unfortunately there are no new Deerhunter gems, but they do demonstrate their absolute mastery of soft, daydreamy, floating ambience which suits the film perfectly. The odd pairing of Deerhunter and Rodarte also shows the growing recognition of the band beyond the indie music scene. Good work, boys.
