Last month during an interview with WBRU, Yellowcard’s Ryan Key confirmed that he will be seen in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film, code named ‘Cloverfield’. The hugely secretive project, set for release on 1/18/08, centers around of group of people attempting to survive a monster attack on New York City, and is currently the center of an online viral marketing campaign. Sticking with the secretive theme (the plot, and even title of the movie are still unknown), Key was intentionally coy in his responses, which included, “I swear on my life I don’t know what it is…I don’t know the name of it and I don’t know what happens.” Click here to read more.

Coheed and Cambria stopped by our studio last week to perform a rare acoustic set in honor of their newest album, No World for Tomorrow. The sci-fi infused band arrived at WBRU after recent shows in New York, which included an Alzheimer’s benefit concert with As Tall As Lions in Manhattan. All the profits from the door went to the cause, with Claudio (guitarist and lead singer) noting that the band’s involvement stemmed from the passing of his aunt from the disease last year. Coheed and Cambria also confirmed that they’re headlining the Kerrang! Tour next year - a 13 date trek across England - with Madina Lake, Fightstar, and Circa Survive.
Claudio, Travis, and Michael (the band’s two guitarists and bassist) then played “The Running Free” (their newest single), and “A Favor House Atlantic.” Click here to read more.

Here’s a review from the September 12th Interpol show at the Agganis Arena. It kind of got eaten by our server, but now it’s finally up! - Travis
At three o’clock, I was already thinking it was a lost cause. Interpol never works in group settings, so I didn’t know if anyone else listened to them, meaning:I had no idea who I could go with. Or how I could get there. However, at five-thirty, after randomly running into people, making a few calls, and buying smokes and papers, several of my friends piled into a borrowed car to drive from Providence to the Agganis. Tonight was the Smashing Pumpkins show at the PPAC. While I will spare you the entire review, (after all, it was the Smashing Pumpkins… what can I possibly say?) let me just remark that Billy Corgan performed all of the favorites in what looked like electric blue scrubs over a striped shirt borrowed from Jack the Pumpkin King (from Tim Burton’s “A Nightmare Before Christmas.”) My only gripe with the show was that because of the seating situation the audience was mildly unresponsive, even when the band was playing great songs. Also, the encore consisted of only one song, which was kind of lame, but I will let it go because the overall performance was so amazing.
As for the listeners who won tickets to see the Smashing Pumpkins last week by carving alt rock pumpkins (and bringing in pumpkin pie,) in case you didn’t get around to the station to see the pumpkins, here is the grand prize winner. Click here to see more winners!

Blind Melon played their first show in twelve years at Club Hell in Providence, kicking off a modest tour of small clubs in the Northeast. And the verdict is in: Blind Melon is still a damn good band.
The audience was split between the Blind Melon fanatics who had been waiting a decade for this moment and casual listeners who knew the few songs played on the radio and came out of curiosity. Neither group was disappointed - “They’re playing everything I want to hear!”, yelled behind me, sums it up (setlist after the jump).
